Bio

Sandi Baker is a contemporary wildlife artist whose work bridges the worlds of abstraction and realism. With over 35 years as a professional painter, she is known for her large-scale canvases that blend expressive energy with meticulous detail. Her subjects—wolves, cougars, bears, and other wild creatures—emerge from luminous backgrounds, inviting viewers to experience the untamed spirit and quiet mystery of the natural world.

A lifelong autodidact and experimentalist, Sandi’s practice is rooted in curiosity and a relentless drive to push the boundaries of paint. She works in acrylics, oils, enamels, and spray paint, often developing new techniques and surfaces to bring her vision to life. Her deep connection to animals and nature, shaped by her upbringing on a farm and years of hands-on work with animal sanctuaries, infuses each piece with empathy and reverence.

Sandi’s paintings are collected worldwide and have been exhibited in galleries across the United States. Her work is recognized for its technical mastery, emotional resonance, and ability to transform spaces—inviting viewers to reconnect with the wildness within themselves.

Artist Statement

I have always been an artist drawn to the wild, the mysterious, and the unspoken language of animals. My work is a meditation on connection: between human and animal, spirit and matter, the seen and the unseen. Through luminous layers of acrylic and airbrush, I strive to capture not just the likeness of my subjects, but their energy and essence—the fierce beauty, vulnerability, and wisdom that animals embody.

Art, for me, is a way to communicate what words cannot: the ache of longing, the joy of presence, the hope for understanding. I believe each painting is created through me, not by me—a collaboration with something greater. My hope is that my work stirs memory, awakens empathy, and inspires a deeper reverence for the wild within and around us.
